Saucon Legacy Trust is a newly formed 501(c)(3) historical organization dedicated to preserving historic sites in the greater Saucon Valley area that are endangered, at risk, or deserving of recognition and not already protected by another group.
Our First Project:
Its first project is the preservation of the Springfield Cabin, also known as the Getter Cabin, on Lower Saucon Road. The region’s last freestanding stone-and-log cabin, it dates to the area’s early European settlement. The plan is to preserve the remaining stone walls, salvage usable wood, and interpret the site through signage and augmented reality. If funding allows, the cabin may one day be rebuilt; until then, the preserved ruins will offer visitors a chance to learn about Lower Saucon Township’s early settler families.
Preservation Pennsylvania’s annual “Pennsylvania at Risk” list, which highlights historic and culturally significant places in need of protection, has included Springfield Cabin as one of the five historically significant properties across the State which are risk if affirmative action is not taken to choose preservation over destruction.
